The housing allowance is a monthly government contribution for tenants on low income. In 2026, important changes take effect: the maximum rent limit is removed, the age limit dropped from 23 to 21, and only base rent counts (not service charges).
Who is eligible?
- Tenants aged 21+ (was 23+)
- Tenants aged 18-20 (lower max rent)
- You rent an independent dwelling
- You are registered at the rental address
- Dutch nationality or valid residence permit

- Assets max €146,011 (single) or €184,633 (with partner)
